Your resume is the foundation upon which professional relationships are built. Therefore, accuracy is essential. A resume is a record of your education, achievements, and experience and an identifier for your abilities. A job seeker must prioritize relevance, organization, style, and accuracy when assembling or accessing a resume. They must account for all education, training, former employment, and dates clearly and accurately. It is equally vital for hiring managers to explore the subjects of a resume and ensure that the details are factual. Overlooking the correctness of a resume could be damaging for both the candidate and the client.
Joint risks of failing to verify resume details:
Broken trust: When a candidate fails to represent accurate details or dates (intentional or accidental) within their resume, they risk breaking a prospective employer’s trust or having an offer rescinded. This is not a great way to begin a relationship or maintain a healthy reputation. Employers are on a time budget to fill vacancies, and if it is deemed a candidate is untrue, they will move on.
Inability to perform: If the candidate makes it through the hiring process and is successfully onboarded with inaccurate abilities, the employee will be incapable of performing their duties effectively. In turn, the respective company will not meet its objectives. Company resources will be utilized to upskill a candidate who was deemed to be ready to fulfill a role when in fact, they weren’t. Inefficient time does not convert to revenue for either party.
Early release and vacancy: If an employee does not meet indicated metrics, responsibilities, or goals over time, they are likely to be discharged from their role with the company. The entire hiring process will start new for both the employee and employer. No one wants to be released early from a position or do the releasing. It’s awkward for all involved.
